Oklahoma court denies hearing for death-row inmate

OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma appeals court has rejected a request for an evidentiary hearing by an Arkansas man convicted in the shooting death of a convenience store clerk in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals handed down the decision Friday in the case of 32-year-old Marlon Deon Harmon. Harmon was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the 2004 fatal shooting of 55-year-old Kamal Choudhury. Choudhury was the owner of the Q&S convenience store.
The court upheld Harmon’s conviction and death sentence last year. Prosecutors said evidence, including eyewitnesses who placed him at the scene and a print of Harmon’s palm found on a card from the victim’s wallet, was sufficient for a conviction.
His attorney, Kristi Christopher, did not return a phone call seeking comment.
