River Poets Meeting

Guest Artist Exhibit

ASH FLAT — Terri Jo Fowler is Guest Artist of the Month at the Ash Flat Public Library. Her work will be displayed, including oil paintings with themes ranging from rocks to shoes. She also paints pet portraits.

Black History Month

POCAHONTAS — The Eddie Mae Herron Center and Museum will observe Black History Month throughout February with activities and events that will include hog butchering, quilting, food preparation and lectures. Embroidery Workshop

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will offer an Introduction to Embroidery workshop on Jan. 19. This trip back in time will offer students an opportunity to learn a variety of stitches and patterns. Attendees are asked to bring scrap fabric. The cost is $15. Knitting Workshop

POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park will hold a beginner’s knitting workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 19. The cost is $15 per person. Batesville Chamber Business Expo

BATESVILLE — The 2013 Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo will be held Jan. 23 in Independence Hall at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. This fourth annual expo will include awards presentations. Author’s Presentation

BATESVILLE — John Hornor Jacobs, a Lyon College graduate and a novelist, will give a public interview and reading on the Lyon campus Feb. 5. The interview will be at 11 a.m. in the Alphin Board Room of the Alphin Building. The reading will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Bevens Music Room of Brown Chapel. Jacobs’ appearance is part of the Lyon’s Visiting Writer Series. Cooking Sweet Treats

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Ozark Folk Center State Park will offer a class on learning the tricks of cooking sweet — and healthy — treats for their valentines. The recipes will include whole-grain cookies and fresh-fruit delight. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Smokehouse at the park. Attendees should bring a brown-bag lunch to eat with the treats they prepare. The cost for the class is $30. Space is limited, and preregistration is required by Jan. 28.
