Mega Millions, Powerball drawings switch to KATV

— The twice-weekly draws for two popular multistate lotteries will now be seen on a new network, officials said Monday.

Powerball and Mega Millions drawings, which had been broadcast on KARK-TV, Channel 4, will now be seen on the KATV, Channel 7, newscast. The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery said the drawings would occur toward the end of the broadcast between 10:29 p.m. and 10:35 p.m.

Mega Millions drawings occur Tuesday and Friday nights, while Powerball is held Wednesday and Saturday nights.

Julie Baldridge, a spokesman for the lottery, said the contract to air the drawings shifts about every couple years or so. KARK had held it since the state lottery debuted Powerball in 2009.

Baldridge said no money is exchanged in granting the exclusive rights contract for airing the drawings, but added the agency's promotions and advertising staff "make a decision in the best interest of the lottery."
