2 killed in state highway wrecks

— Two people were killed Sunday in accidents on state highways in Morrilton and in Sebastian County, the Arkansas State Police reported.

In Morrilton, Ashley Wright, 29, of Springfield was killed when the vehicle she was driving was struck head on by a pickup on Arkansas 9, according to a state police report.

Wright was headed north in a 2008 Kia at 3:30 a.m. when the southbound 1996 Chevrolet pickup crossed the center line, the report says.

The pickup’s driver, Rodger Harmon, 23, of Morrilton was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said he was in serious condition Monday.

In Sebastian County, Matthew Davis, 21, of Hartford was killed when he drove a car off the road at the intersection of Arkansas 45 and Arkansas 252, according to a state police report.

Davis was headed south on Arkansas 45 in a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro at 1:34 p.m. when he crossed the center line and went into the ditch, the report says.

The car struck a concrete bridge, spun counterclockwise and landed in a creek embankment, the report says.
