LITTLE ROCK Federal, state and local officials are to join in announcing the designation of the White River in Arkansas as the nation’s second National Blueway.
Deputy Secretary of the Interior David Hayes will join Sen. Mark Pryor, Rep. Tim Griffin, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Terrence Salt and Deputy Undersecretary of Agriculture Ann Mills and others in the announcement scheduled for noon Wednesday in Little Rock.
The designation is part of an Obama administration effort to establish a community-driven conservation and recreation agenda.
The designation will recognize the partnerships that are working to conserve the river across its watershed.
Federal officials are expected to announce a series of new initiatives aimed at supporting the river.
