The Federal Emergency Management Agency has named Tony Robinson as regional administrator for its Region 6, which includes Arkansas, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday.

Robinson replaces Tony Russell, who vacated the post last May when he was named superintendent of FEMA's Emergency Management Institute, Homeland Security said in a statement.

Robinson, who has been with FEMA since 1987, has served as acting administrator since Russell’s departure.

He previously held the post of recovery division director, coordinating disaster-recovery programs in Region 6, which encompasses Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, the statement said.

“In a career spanning 25 years, Tony has provided leadership and oversight during more than 50 federally-declared disasters,” FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate said in the statement. "He's an exceptional public servant and he will be a great asset and advocate for the residents of this region in the years to come."
