Beer, wine sales can start in Benton County this week

— Beer and wine can be sold in retail stores in Benton County starting this week for the first time since World War II.

The Benton County Daily Record reported that sales can start Wednesday at 49 convenience and grocery stores such as Kum & Go, E-Z Mart and at Casey’s General Store and Wal-Mart after the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Division Board meets Wednesday in Little Rock to formally consider approving the permits.

Division Director Michael Langley says businesses representatives can go to Little Rock to pick up their permits Wednesday or wait until they arrive in the mail.

County voters on Nov. 6 approved alcohol sales in the county.

The permits apply to beer and wine sales only. Liquor store permits will be considered later this year.
