Bald Knob man hit, killed while standing on U.S. 67 shoulder

A Bald Knob man was hit and killed Tuesday by a truck that lost control on an icy White County road, Arkansas State Police said.

Delbert J. Brooks, 37, had pulled his 2003 Volvo onto the southbound shoulder of U.S. 67 at mile marker 53 and was standing outside the vehicle, state police said in a preliminary accident report.

About 5:24 p.m., a 1997 Ford Explorer driving north lost control, crossed the median, and hit Brooks as he stood on the shoulder, the report said.

State police didn’t say why Brooks had pulled over to the shoulder.

Road were slick and icy at the time of the wreck, the report said.

Brooks was the 18th person to die in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
