Ex-S.C. Gov. Sanford to announce run for Congress

— Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is set to announce that he’s running for his old seat in Congress, ending a break from politics after his affair with an Argentine woman was exposed.

Sanford’s spokesman said the Republican plans a news release and media interviews Wednesday to make the announcement that he’s seeking the 1st District seat along the state’s coast.

The seat is open after GOP congressman Tim Scott was appointed to the U.S. Senate to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Jim DeMint.

Sanford was considered a possible Republican presidential contender until he revealed in 2009 that he had an affair with an Argentine woman to whom he has since become engaged.

Sanford’s ex-wife, Jenny, said this week that she won’t run for the congressional seat.
