An otherwise intelligent friend of mine launched a recent Facebook rant against “weapons that automatically feed bullets and can fire 100 rounds per second. I just don’t get why the Average Joe needs one. Can you explain it to me?” I couldn’t, I admitted. But I could explain that there is no hand-held gun in the world that fires that fast.

If the by-line says "By GLENN GARVIN MIAMI HERALD" and at the end you acknowledge he is a "columnist for the Miami Herald", then why in the hell is the words "LITTLE ROCK" at the top of this article suggesting the article was printed, written, or otherwise published here???????? "LITTLE ROCK" should be no where near this article!!

The author fails to understand that those who have used these types of guns to kill many at once are in the "army guy" mode in their brain. This makes them feel as if they are really rambo, not some outcast who doesn't have the mental or social skills to deal with real life. So you get rid of at least some of their fantasy.

"Of the 12,664 people murdered in the United States in 2011, only 323-less than 3 percent-were killed with rifles of any type, according to the FBI."

Also that guys "rambo fantasy" is in no way the norm and freedoms of the rest of us shouldn't be cut short. It's like back in school when one guy wont shut up and the entire class ends up having to do extra work... It wasn't fair treatment for those who were doing right back then and what's being pushed through congress now is the same.

Sooooooooo........are you saying then that we should just try to persuade these "outcasts" into ONLY going into a wild west gunslinger mode, by limiting them to six-guns, or, beter yet, limit them to the weapons of the Samurai and limit their killing fantasies to only five or ten victims? What if we were actually to try and get these "outcasts" the treatment they need or pulled from our society so that they cannot do damage to the innocent?

Good facts that are all but ignored by the kneejerk media regarding these so called "assault weapons". Amazing how ignorant the majority of the population are regarding firearms. Careful, though, too much fact and reason and the liberals' heads will start exploding.

And if you're going to ban guns that feed this so called "army guy" fantasy, you better ban violent video games and movies too. Infringe the second amendment and infringement of the first will be right behind, because after all, we have to save people from themselves, right?

Hey Timber - You seem to know a lot about the mental state of the criminally insane. Hmmm, what conclusions could be drawn from that?

Lots of people in Arkansas prefer military platform rifles for hog hunting in additon to varmint hunting. They like the light weight of the gun and the way it handles in dense cover and minimal recoil. They also like the high capacity mags that helps keep cartridges free of debris when negotiating thick brush and swamps.

Excellent article. Problem is, liberals always become so confused by fact.......

Hey Nonsheeple - Go back ten years and that 3% figure is even smaller. When you control for rifles made on a military platform the figure is less than 1/2 of 1%. Compare that number to the number of babies killed in the womb by abortion on demand during the same time period. Liberals have ZERO credibility when they speak of saving innocent lives - ZERO.

Just BS from the Rambo mentality group.
