It’s winter and the weeds are thriving

By The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

This article was published January 18, 2013 at 11:02 a.m.

From summer drought and high temperatures to winter damage, many plants are struggling to stay alive, writes Janet B. Carson in HomeStyle.

But there is one group of plants that does not seem to be affected by the weather in the slightest — weeds.

By definition, a weed is a plant out of place; so, in theory, a holly bush that sprouts in the woods could be construed as a weed. But as gardeners, we know there are much more pervasive plants that we would love to eradicate from our yards and gardens.

To properly control weeds, you first need to know what type of weed you are dealing with. See Saturday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for Carson’s recommendations on dealing with those pesky winter weeds.
