Texarkana boy arrested after taking gun to school

By The Associated Press

This article was published January 18, 2013 at 7:04 a.m.

— Police arrested an 11-year-old student at a Texarkana middle school after the boy reportedly showed an unloaded handgun to another student.

Texarkana police say the boy took the small-caliber gun to College Hill Middle School on Wednesday so he could show it to another student.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that the student who saw the gun reported the incident to school administrators.

The school district says the student who took the gun to school was questioned and searched. No bullets were found, and the gun was unloaded.

Police say the youth was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun on school property. His name wasn’t released because of his age.

A spokesman for the district says she expects administrators will recommend that the boy be expelled.

A future NRA member no doubt. The boy should be given advice concerning his mentality along with his parents. There is no excuse for this.

It's the parents that should be arrested. We need to restrict gun availability to minors the same we do alcohol!!!!

When I was raising my three kids, I could put a gun out in plain sight and they would not dare touch it. I taught them to not touch anything that was not theirs. Other parents should too. To Jackabbot, enough with the sarcastic remarks about the NRA. We believe in self-defense, proper use of firearms, upholding the 2nd. Amendment, and obeying the law. To my knowledge, none of these animals belonged to the NRA. Their doctors should have reported them to the proper authorities and lives would have been saved. You cannot legislate evil by punishing law-abiding citizens.

How will the gun owner be punished for not controling his firearm?

Three of four posts here are typical "knee jerk, ignorant" offerings. The article doesn't provide sufficient information for anyone to make an intelligent judgement about this incident.
Jackabbott, you know about as much about the NRA as you do about coaching football or directing a major college athletic program, which is absolutely none. This opinion is based on your other posts I have read!

To Penber--It is not about the gunowner controlling their gun, it is about the government controlling their gun. I promise you, I am not a "gun nut". I am a disabled verteran who loves this country very much. I simply do not want the government controlling my life. The 2nd Amendment is to safeguard the people from the government and has nothing to do with hunting as some people say. Stay safe and free my friend.

Minors have Constitutional rights too. Probably just exercising his 2nd Amendment right to protect his teachers and fellow students.

blah blah's the parents responsibility to lock up weapons of any kind so that their young cannot get to them, as well as teaching them about said weapons.

superduty.....the black helicopter man. Needs his Bushmaster to use against US troops when they come to get his deer rifle. Being a veteran, you should know they would just use a drone strike on you. What lunancy.
