Attack in Nigeria’s northwest kills at least 3

— A witness and official said that gunmen attacked the convoy of a religious leader in Nigeria’s northwest, killing at least three people.

The witness said gunmen on Saturday shot sporadically at the convoy for the Emir of Kano Ado Bayero, but that he was not injured in the attack. The witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said police repelled the attack in Nigeria’s second-largest city. He said that a blast also went off in a jeep parked on the roadside during the attack.

State governor Engineer Rabiu Mus Kwankwaso said three royal guards were killed in the attack. He confirmed that the emir was not hurt.
