Foreclosure steps taken against Arkansas fairgrounds

— A contractor who said he’s owed $304,000 for work at the new fairgrounds in Jonesboro is taking steps to foreclose on the property if the Craighead County Fair Association fails to pay.

The Jonesboro Sun reported Saturday that the paperwork was filed Craighead County Circuit Court on behalf of Baker Brothers Asphalt Paving Inc.

The company is one of several that say the association owes about $1.2 million on work they did at the fairgrounds that opened in September.

Fair Association President Eddie Burris said in a statement to the newspaper that unforeseen cost overruns pushed the cost of the project beyond available revenue. Burris said the association is trying to get financing to pay the bills while it sells property at the previous fair site in east Jonesboro.
