Obama adviser optimistic on immigration reform

— A top White House adviser said the stars seemed aligned for Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform this year.

Speaking Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” David Plouffe said support for reform is strong among lawmakers, the business community and the American people.

He said there’s, quote, “no reason” immigration reform shouldn’t move through Congress this year.

Plouffe also is optimistic about passing stricter gun laws but expects a long fight.

He said last month’s massacre at an elementary school in Connecticut, quote, “changed the debate.”

He said, quote, “It’s going to be a hard battle, but we’re confident.”
