House advances flat salaries for elected officials

— The Arkansas House has approved a budget proposal that keeps salaries flat for the state’s elected officials.

Lawmakers voted unanimously Tuesday to level-fund the salaries of officials in the executive and judicial branches of government in the coming fiscal year.

Last week a legislative committee decided against providing prosecutors and judges with a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment. Legislative leaders say they are open to revisiting that salary increase later this session.

Lawmakers are also considering a proposal to provide a cost of living increase for all state employees.

The Legislature returned to the Capitol on Tuesday after a four-day break.
