House weighing salaries for elected officials

— The Arkansas Legislature is weighing a budget proposal that would keep salaries flat for the state’s elected officials.

The House is expected to vote Tuesday on a measure that would level-fund the salaries of officials in the executive and judicial branches of government in the coming fiscal year.

Last week a legislative committee decided against providing prosecutors and judges with a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment.

Legislative leaders have said they are open to revisiting that salary increase later this session.

The Legislature is returning to the Capitol on Tuesday after a four-day break. Other budgetary issues facing lawmakers include a resolving a projected shortfall in the state’s Medicaid program and deciding whether all state employees should receive a cost-of-living adjustment this year.
