AT&T 'working to resolve' U-verse outage

By Gavin Lesnick

This article was originally published January 22, 2013 at 11:26 a.m. Updated January 22, 2013 at 2:06 p.m.

AT&T says it is working to fix a problem that has caused some customers to lose U-verse service.

The extent of the blackout wasn't immediately clear, though there were scattered reports of problems in Little Rock, North Little Rock and in several other states in the Southeast.

A spokesman for AT&T issued an e-mail statement in response to questions about the scope and cause of the outage, though few details were included.

"A limited number of AT&T customers in some markets may be experiencing issues with U-verse service," Anita Smith said in the message. "A team of engineers and technicians are working to resolve the issue, and we apologize for any inconvenience to our customers."

A second statement issued about 2 p.m. indicated the problem was "with a server that supports U-verse."

"The issue has impacted a limited number of customers in some of our Southwest and Southeast region states," Smith said. "We have been working around the clock and are making progress on resolving the issue."

There was no indication when the service might be restored.

Seems the outage virus that Comcast had a couple weeks ago has spread to Uverse.

Apparently AT&T is so big that "limited" now means "every U-verse customer in the former SW Bell & BellSouth regions" (unless your gateway hasn't asked for a new IP address since yesterday afternoon, an ever-shrinking exception). Over 12 hours now in midtown LR with NO end in sight.

Uverse has been out in west little rock for 2 days. Im thinking of looking for an alternative to at&t.

This is ridiculous. Mine has been out for 2 days now here in Bryant! I can't even watch my DVR'ed shows! I'm definitely going to be calling about a discount on my bill for the days I have been without it. "Limited number of customers". HA! From what I read, it's the whole Southern U.S. Comcast is definitely looking more attractive.

Well over 24 hours now with NO service and NO honest answers from AT&T. They continue to tell the few local media outlets asking that it's a "limited" outage when all indications are it affects SEVERAL STATES and is due to a MAJOR server failure. AT&T's "damage control" mentality only makes it WORSE, as if their paying customers simply DO NOT MATTER enough to be given even a status update! Are they just TRYING to make Entergy & Comcast look good?

In our neighborhood near Cantrell and 430, we have had odd glitches like DVR'd shows restarting themselves in the middle of playing, live shows freezing and skipping ahead and very slow internet but no major outage. Over a week ago we had Uverse trucks working in our area for days so this problem is not new this week.
