Beebe appoints Scroggin, Belk as agency directors

— Gov. Mike Beebe office announced Thursday that he has named new directors to the state Livestock and Poultry Commission and the Department of Labor.

Faulkner County Judge Preston Scroggin, 46, was appointed to the livestock panel. Scroggin is also the president of the County Judges' Association of Arkansas.

He previously served in the state House of Representatives and on the Vilonia City Council.

Scroggin replaces Steve Bryles, who died in December.

Ricky Belk, 56, of Alma was tapped to lead the Labor Department.

Belk serves on the Arkansas Workforce Investment Board. He's also the secretary-treasurer for the Arkansas AFL-CIO. Belk replaces James Salkeld, who retired earlier this month.

In addition, Beebe announced the appointment of Sheila Vaught to the University of Central Arkansas board of trustees, replacing Rush Harding, for a term expiring Jan. 14, 2020.

He also renamed Ron Rhodes of Cherokee Village to the Arkansas State University board of trustees and Leigh Whiteside of Russellville to the Arkansas Tech University board of trustees.
