Prosecutors waive death penalty in Texarkana death

— Federal prosecutors say they won’t seek the death penalty against an Oklahoma couple charged in the death of a man whose body was found at the Texarkana Speedway.

U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge declined to offer specifics on the decision but says his office won’t seek the death penalty against Leslie Bruce Larcade and Chrystal Lynn Larcade of Broken Bow.

The couple faces kidnapping resulting in death and conspiracy to commit kidnapping in the death of Shannon Watkins.

Court documents allege the Larcades kidnapped Watkins from Broken Bow to collect a $1,000 bounty.

Watkins was found with a trash bag over his head and a noose pulled around his neck. The Texarkana Gazette reported that an autopsy found Watkins died from asphyxiation by hanging.

Trial is set for April in Texarkana.
