— Kim Pease of the Northwest Arkansas Talent Society reports that Los Angeles based casting director Paul Weber will be holding a workshop in Fayetteville on The Art of the Audition: The Business of the Art.

According to the news release, Weber is one of Hollywood’s most respected casting directors and the head of television casting for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, casting for TV series including Stargate, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Dead Like Me and The Outer Limits as well as films in the James Bond franchise, Hot Tub Time Machine, the remake of Red Dawn, The Cabin in the Woods and many other projects.

Weber’s workshop will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 23 for ages 18 and up and from 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 24 for ages 12-17.

At 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22, there will be a VIP dinner and question-and-answer session at Copeland’s restaurant in Rogers.

The first half of the workshop includes segments on “The Casting Perspective,” “Why Certain Actors Succeed,” “What You Must Do Right Now,” “How to Get an Agent” and “The Headshots and Resumes.”

The next half of the workshop looks at the audition process and will be more hands-on for participants, with “The Anatomy of the Audition,” “How to Make the Boldest, Most Effective Choices in ‘The Room,’” “The Importance of Listening,” “Cold Reading Technique,” “Script Analysis: How to Deliver Your Best Read the First Time” and, finally, “Why Actors Fail.”

Weber is quoted in the release as saying, “There are good actors ... and then there is what happens in The Room.”

Given the italics, I hope he is referring to the awesome film by Tommy Wiseau and not the room in which casting takes place.

The workshop costs $225 with a $100 deposit to hold a seat; with purchase of the workshop, the VIP dinner and Q&A session costs $75; without the workshop the dinner and session are $175.

The workshops will be held at the Talent Society & Casting Center in Fayetteville at 509 W. Spring St., Suite 120, downstairs next to The Iceberg.

You can use PayPal, cash or checks from banks within a 20-mile radius of Fayetteville that must be delivered in person. For more information or to get a PayPal link, e-mail
