Two killed in single-car accident Thursday night

By Lee Hogan

This article was originally published January 25, 2013 at 11:05 a.m. Updated January 25, 2013 at 4:54 p.m.

— Two are dead as a result of a single-car accident on Arkansas 10 and Garrison Road outside of Little Rock on Thursday.

The Pulaski County sheriff's office responded to a report of the wreck about 11:19 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies said they found a red sedan in a tree line by the road. The police report states the passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. Paramedics attempted to revive the driver at the scene before taking him to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead.

The Pulaski County coroner's office identified the driver as 32-year-old Daniel Burghart and the passenger as 33-year-old Aimee Burghart.

Deputies said a bag with ten bottles of Propofol and a bag containing a laptop and other personal items were found at the scene.

An online registry, npidb.org, lists Daniel Burghart as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

The bag containing the laptop was given to Daniel Burghart's family while the bag containing Propofol was submitted as evidence.

The coroner's office said toxicology reports would take eight to 10 weeks to be completed.

What were they doing with ten bottles of Propofol?

Propofol - the drug that killed off Michael Jackson.

Propofol that is a seriously and tightly controlled drug, that is suppose to only be administered by medical professionals with life support available.

Anyone transporting that kind of quantity of Propofol is up to no good - and is likely tied in with some serious players - that laptop should never have been released until it could be combed for evidence. Big mistake on the part of law enforcement.

Michael...the deceased was a CRNA. The couple was about as far from "someone who is up to no good" as you can get. Imagine how the friends and family may feel when your self righteous opinion about someone you have no facts about is read. Daniel and Aimee were astounding people. That road is highly dangerous and filled with wildlife, a more probable explanation than suggesting the deceased were drug peddlers.

Well Brian, What do you think they were doing with ten bottles of Propofol?

i agree with Goldfish's statements. Dan and Aimee were the nicest people I have met. Honest, kind and hard working would be some of the words i would use to describe them. Dan carrying propofol has to do with his job. it is a prescribed drug but not a controlled one like hydrocodone or morphine which cannot be taken out of a hospital. please dont make any further assumptions about this man.

CRNA = Clinical Registered Nurse Anesthetist. According to another website, he performed anesthesia in rural hospitals. Condolences to all those affected by the loss of this young couple.

The father that passed was a CRNA. A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. They were traveling to his parents home with their daughter. He had the right to have his equipment with him because he worked in the field. Just stop, if you don't know what is going on.

Don't assume stuff, it makes a butt out of you. God bless them and keep them as I know He is. They were the two kindest, thoughtful and rational people I know, very dedicated to their family and church. Miss you guys so very much. Stop talking smack about them. They had strong moral character. They didn't just talk the talk, they walked it, as best as anyone could. Believe that!! Prayers to all who are hurting over this loss.

Elisabeth Jerrell, Im sorry that all you seem to be able to do is insult and judge the dead. You are not in any position to do that. I have to muster everything I have not to insult your character as a human being. Pray that judgement is not given to you as quickly as you have given it. No matter how much you THINK you know about the situation, you only have as much information as anyone else reading this article.

@elizabeth jerrell. Congratulations. You officially have the title for the worlds longest run on sentence. In some circles they call that a rant. Interestingly, you claim to be a CRNA while at the same time illustrating that you possess a poor grasp of basic grammar (a skill generally attained with higher levels of education). Secondly, the argument you make against medical professionals includes you- or at least includes your professional claim. I am inclined to believe that if you are correct in that doctors and nurses readily abuse controlled substances, and you are in fact a CRNA, then you are sampling your own professional tools. This may explain your erratic response. Worse yet, you are likely, by your own admission, engaging in the very behavior you condemn. Of course, my supposition is based on your insinuation that you possess some insider knowledge about the couple and medical professionals personal habits rather than the reality that they had just left a bible study to pick up their two year old daughter from her grandparents. But I suppose it's understandable how someone could conclude the deceased were drug mules...especially if that someone possess the worlds longest run on sentence.

I have known Dan since he was seven years old. Both he and Aimee were fine Christian people. The accident occurred after they left a Bible study at Daniel’s sister’s home. Daniel testified that night that he loved and trusted the Lord and that he loved people. They were on the way to pick up their daughter at his parent’s home when the accident occurred. His church family in Little Rock, where we were all members, are reeling. We will miss them.

Even nice people mess up & do things that are bad, & we should not take up for them, but admit it. Covering it up never helps anyone, but it might cause even more deaths by this drug. This man was employed at the hospital at Nashville, AR, & was in the process of moving into the home they had recently bought. The hospital at Nashville furnishes the Propanol that the Registered Nurse Anesthetist uses in their hospital. They never uses what is brought in by those that work for them, & neither do other hospitals. So really he would have had no reason to have 10 bottles of Propanol in his possession. They will not let us post links here, but just do a search for ”nurse anesthetist addiction” & you can read about the alarming rate that nurse anesthetist are abusing this drug. Perhaps those in this profession abused this drug because its so easy for them to obtain, its not tracked down as Narcotic drugs are in the hospital setting.
