LR man shot by hitchhiker; police investigating

— Little Rock Police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday night at a store on Asher Avenue.

Police say Jimmy Griffis, 22, was shot by a hitchhiker at the Site convenience store at 4203 Asher Ave. after giving the suspect a ride.

Griffis told police that the suspect flagged him down on 25th Street and asked for a ride to the convenience store. The police report states that when they arrived at the store, the hitchhiker asked Griffis to go into the store with him.

When Griffis exited his vehicle, the hitchhiker drew a gun and demanded money, police said. After an argument, the hitchhiker shot Griffis, hitting him in the left arm and chest.

The police report states surveillance video from the store shows the hitchhiker running away after shooting Griffis.

A witness, who states in the police report to be a friend of the victim, took Griffis to the UAMS Medical Center emergency room for treatment. Police say the injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are still looking for the hitchhiker, who was described by police as a black man of medium complexion, standing 5-foot-2 and weighing about 140 pounds. He was wearing a red hat and shoes, a black coat and green jeans, according to the police report.

He faces charges of aggravated robbery and first-degree battery when apprehended.
