Meeting set for updates on 12th Street revitalization plan

— A meeting has been scheduled for Thursday on the 12th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan's progress, the city of Little Rock said Monday.

The public event, planned for 6 p.m. at the Willie Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center, 3805 W. 12th St., will be 2013’s first to provide updates on the plan and to hear input on future goals.

“I can’t help but to be excited about seeing the progress made on the BCD Empowerment Center, Children’s Library and soon the 12th Street Police Station all of which are signals of hope for revitalization plan in action,” Ward 2 Director Ken Richardson said in a statement. “These are things that the community has asked for and now it is within sight. The next step is job creation through the development of a transition to adulthood initiative.”

BCD, which formerly stood for Black Community Developers and now stands for Better Community Development, has performed outreach the 12th Street Corridor since 1967, according to the group’s website.

The Empowerment Center will house a state-licensed substance-abuse program, permanent housing for people with special needs and a renovated facility for career and life-skills training.

The boundaries for the 12th Street Corridor are Woodrow Street to University Avenue from Interstate 630 down to 15th Street.
