— Title: Valerie Rogers Chogaflow — A Unique Chair Yoga Practice

What’s the goal? To provide a comprehensive yoga class without your knees touching the floor.

Who’s it for? It’s for new practitioners of yoga, those who have physical limitations or those just wanting a non-sweating class.

Format: The DVD runs 55 minutes and is broken into four chapters: Introduction, Seated Warm Ups, a Standing Flow, and Seated Stretch With Relaxation.

The video was shot in an austere yoga studio at Twist Power Yoga in Dallas. There are basically two camera shots, one from center front and one from an angle focused on two teachers, two yoga mats and two chairs, for the entire practice.

What’s to like? The many benefits of a traditional yoga class can be enjoyed with this practice such as improved circulation, increased flexibility, improved stamina and balance and a quieter mind.

Rogers clearly instructs the practice, giving nice attention to linking breath with movements while Gretchen Acevedo demonstrates a modified version of the poses. This video offers a well-rounded yoga class for those who have difficulty getting up and down from the floor.

What do Chogaflow and martinis have in common? Those of a certain age may remember when a martini was gin and vermouth garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. Today, almost any concoction that is served in a martini glass is called a martini.

New versions may contain pineapple, chocolate syrup, sake, tequila or mangos.

Hatha yoga classes used to be a sequence of traditional asanas that had been handed down for generations and performed on a mat. Chogaflow could just as easily be called “Chtretch” for “Chair Plus Stretch.”

Necessary gear: A hard surface, a nonslip yoga mat and a sturdy chair.

Yogini’s credentials: Valerie Rogers is a registered Yoga Alliance teacher and a registered massage therapist and has been studying various styles of yoga for 10 years.
