State lawmakers return for 3rd week of session

— Arkansas lawmakers are returning for the third week of this year’s legislative session with a vote on a proposal to allow guns in church expected in the state Senate.

The House and Senate planned to convene Monday after a three-day weekend. The Senate was scheduled to vote on a bill that would allow concealed handguns in churches and other houses of worship.

The measure would leave it up to churches to decide whether to allow the concealed weapons and who could carry them.

The House planned to vote on a nonbinding resolution urging federal officials to not infringe on the 2nd Amendment.

House members also planned to vote on a bill that authorizes a new veterans home in the state but does not specify how to fund such a project.
