Jeb Bush to headline Little Rock education rally

By The Associated Press

This article was published January 29, 2013 at 7:03 a.m.

— Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is headlining an education rally at the Arkansas Capitol held by a group pushing for changes to the way the state approves charter schools.

Bush on Tuesday planned to speak at a rally held by A Plus Arkansas, a group lobbying for more charter schools in the state.

The rally and an education summit planned later that day are being held in conjunction with National School Choice Week.

A Plus Arkansas is backing legislation that would take away the state Board of Education’s power to approve charter schools and instead create an independent state commission to review the applications.

Gov. Mike Beebe has said he’s opposed to that change.
