Mena man sentenced to 10 years on child porn charges

A Mena man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison on charges that he downloaded and possessed child pornography.

According to a release from the United States Attorney's Office, John Marc Ryan, 51, was sentenced without parole and will also be forced to serve 15 years of supervised release after his incarceration.

The sentence stems from the charges that came from an investigation that began in May 2011 off a tip from an individual who contacted Mena police about a computer they purchased from Ryan that contained child pornography.

Authorities interviewed Ryan, who later confessed to the crimes. The release states that Ryan had more than 16,000 still images and 100 videos on a number of devices.

An additional computer at Ryan's home was found to have child pornography on it as well.
