A Blytheville man was killed Wednesday after his vehicle went through a stop sign, across a parking lot and into a parked truck trailer, authorities said.

It happened about 8:30 a.m. in Blytheville in Mississippi County.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, 34-year-old Chester Caldwell Jr. was driving a 2000 Chevy south on Fifth Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Sycamore Street.

Police say the Chevy went across Sycamore Street and into a gravel parking lot, where it struck the parked semi-truck trailer. According to the report, the road was wet at the time.

Caldwell was dead at the scene. He was the 29th person to die in a traffic accident on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.

I am just gald no one else was hurt. If you run stop signs and hit parked trailers, you don't need to drive. You are putting others at risk.

I wonder if the truck driver will get sued for not having his triangles out if he didn't.

You don't go through a stop sign AND a parking lot without stopping unless something else is contributing. Even with wet streets. I get the impression that this was a "T" intersection. Did he have an attack? Brakes fail? Was he speeding? I feel like there is more to the story.

There's definitely more to this than running a stop sign. He had a heart attack or seizure, was inebriated, being chased/shot at, or something. It is also possible that he was driving in an easterly direction and blinded by the rising sun. Although with wet streets, the sun may not have been shining. So rather than speculating, let's just pray for his family. We do know that he was someone's son and grandson; and possibly someone's brother, uncle, father, etc.
