Fistfight turns deadly in Garland County

— Authorities in Garland County say two people are in custody after a man was fatally shot during a fistfight Wednesday night.

Lt. James Martin said in a statement that deputies were called about 6:20 p.m. to Barite Street in eastern Garland County after 25-year-old David Halpin was shot.

Martin said "very early reports" suggest the two people in custody, later identified as 24-year-old Dustin Wayne Brown and 26-year-old Stephen Tye Curtiss, followed Halpin and a woman to a residence, where an argument and a fistfight started.

"During the argument, one of the suspects pulled a gun and shot the male victim, who died at the scene," Martin said.

The woman, identified by authorities as 29-year-old Amber Brinsfield, was reportedly struck in the head during the fight. She was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive. Martin said both Brown and Curtiss have been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree battery and are being held without bond.
