Jonesboro sets 6-month hold on new apartment complexes

JONESBORO — City leaders in Jonesboro have approved a six-month moratorium on new apartment complexes in the city.

The Jonesboro City Council narrowly approved the moratorium Tuesday on a 6-5 vote. Mayor Harold Perrin cast the deciding vote.

The Jonesboro Sun reported that that the resolution expires Jan. 16. It's a moratorium on new multifamily housing zones in the city.

Backers of the moratorium say the city already has a large amount of vacant land that's zoned for multifamily use. Alderman Tim McCall says the city should also consider incentives for developers to revamp boarded-up complexes in Jonesboro.
