Stuart Creek wildfire grows to 63 square miles

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Fire information officers say the Stuart Creek 2 wildfire has grown to nearly 63 square miles. The fire has increased in size by 8,233 acres since Friday.

Fire information officers say 750 homes are at risk but no evacuations have been ordered.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports about 400 people and 20 aircraft are working on the fire. But weather conditions have hampered firefighting efforts.

The Sunday morning report from the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center says increased temperatures, along with decreasing humidity are testing containment lines.

Fire growth potential remains high due to extremely dry fuels.
