With SEC Football Media Days next week, when all things about the 2013 season will be discussed, here is a look back in the form of Arkansas Razorback trivia.

  1. Three times an Arkansas running back has led the SEC in rushing, and one did it twice. Who were they and which one did it in consecutive seasons?
  2. Darren McFadden is the most decorated Razorback, having been named to 17 All-America or all-conference teams (and was twice runner-up for the Heisman Trophy). Who is the second-most decorated player? Here’s a hint: He was neither a running back nor a quarterback.
  3. Only two jersey numbers have been retired: 12 and 77. Which players wore them to earn this honor?
  4. In Arkansas’ seven-overtime victory over Ole Miss in 2001, quarterback Matt Jones accounted for 116 of the UA’s 157 yards in overtime, but it was the 20th tackle of the game by this player, at the 2, that kept the game from going to another overtime. Name the All-American who made the tackle.
  5. Who was the first Razorback to play in a Super Bowl?
  6. The All-Century team includes a father and son. Who are they?
  7. A school-record four Razorbacks were named All-American after the 1969 season. Name three of them.
  8. Who holds the school record for interception return yards?
  9. Arkansas opened the 1957 season with a 12-0 victory over Oklahoma State, but the Cowboys set an opponent record for what?
  10. The Hogs have had two players drafted in the first round of the same NFL Draft five times: Loyd Phillips and Harry Jones in 1967; Billy Ray Smith Jr., and Gary Anderson in 1983; Wayne Martin and Steve Atwater in 1989 and Shawn Andrews and Ahmad Carroll in 2004. Name the final two?
  11. Arkansas has had 32head coaches, including interim coaches, and only three who coached more than three seasons had winning percentages above .700. Frank Broyles was 144-58-5 for .708, Lou Holtz was 60-21-2 for .735 and the third coach has the school’s all time highest winning percentage. Name him.
  12. In 2003 the Razorbacks set an NCAA record for points scored in an overtime game with 47. Who did they beat and what was the final score?

ANSWERS.

  2. Shawn Andrews was named to 14 All-America or all-conference teams as an offensive tackle.
  3. Clyde “Smackover” Scott wore No. 12 (1946-1949). He is the only Razorback to earn All-America honors in football and track. Brandon Burlsworth wore No. 77 and went from a walk-on to an All-American. A movie about his life is in being filmed in Arkansas.
  4. Jermaine Petty stopped Ole Miss tight end Doug Zeigler 2 yards short on a two point conversion to give the Hogs the victory, 58-56.
  5. Lance Alworth, Super Bowl VI, for Dallas against Miami.

  12. The Hogs beat Kentucky 71-63 in Lexington, Ky. DeCori Birmingham rushed for 196 yards, and the quarterback was Matt Jones, who completed 16 of 25 passes for 260 yards. That may also explain why his radio show on 103.7, The Buzz, is named “Overtime.”
