LITTLE ROCK — The president of Human Rights Campaign plans a stop in Arkansas after the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark rulings on same-sex marriage.
Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin is scheduled to speak at noon Monday at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. Griffin is a native of Hope and is the first Southerner to lead Human Rights Campaign, a group that lobbies for gay rights.
Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the federal Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional. The high court also let stand a lower-court ruling that allowed same-sex marriage in California.
Along with Monday's visit in Arkansas, Griffin plans stops in North Carolina, Virginia and Mississippi.
In Arkansas, a case challenging the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage is pending in circuit court.
