Lawsuit seeks to overturn Arkansas gay-marriage ban

By The Associated Press

This article was published July 15, 2013 at 4:05 p.m.

An attorney for three same-sex couples has filed a federal lawsuit, asking a judge to overturn Arkansas' ban on gay marriage.

The lawsuit filed Monday comes after the U.S. Supreme Court recently blocked imposition of a gay marriage ban in California.

Three Arkansas gay couples are plaintiffs in the federal court action. A similar suit was filed earlier in state court. The lawsuit is aimed at overturning the Arkansas ban that was approved by voters in 2004. Eleven gay couples are parties in that lawsuit.

A group is also working to get a measure on the 2014 ballot to legalize same-sex marriage. The Arkansas attorney general's office on Friday rejected proposed wording for the ballot measure.

The Marriage License Bureau:
"Next."
"Good morning. We want to apply for a marriage license."
"Names?"
"Tim and Jim Jones."
"Jones?? Same name huh, are you related?? I see a resemblance."
"Yes, we're brothers."
"Brothers?? You can't get married."
"Why not?? Aren't you giving marriage licenses to same gender couples?"
"Yes, thousands. But we haven't had any siblings. That's incest!"
"Incest?" No, we are not gay and won't have sex."
"Not gay?? Then why do you want to get married?"
"For the financial benefits, of course. And we do have brotherly love for each other. and besides, we don't have any other prospects."
"But we're issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples who've been denied equal protection under the law. If you are not gay, you can get married to a woman."
"Wait a minute. A gay man has the same right to marry a woman as I have. But just because I'm straight doesn't mean I want to marry a woman. I want to marry Jim."
"And I want to marry Tim, Are you going to discriminate against us just because we are not gay?"
"All right, all right. I'll give you your license.
Next."
.
"Hi. We are here for a marriage license."
"Names?"
"John Smith, Jane James, Robert Green, and June Johnson."
"Who wants to marry whom?"
"We all want to marry each other."
"But there are four of you!"
"That's right. You see, we're all bisexual. I love Jane and Robert, Jane loves June and me, June loves Robert and Jane, and Robert loves everyone. All of us getting married together is the only way that we can express our sexual preferences in a marital relationship.".........................................
.
And so it goes........

Grim, were you BORN an abject idiot, or did your stupidity grow throughout the years?

Thanks God dinosaurs like you are dying off.

Grim, incest has PROVEN social (and if heterosexual, biological) consequences that warrant its being outlawed. And "group marriage" in the manner you claim isn't real; it's indistinguishable from classic polygamy, which also has proven social consequences. (Anyone who thinks Warren Jeffs' wives were his equals really IS crazy.) That parade of horribles only makes us heterosexuals look stupid; IMO it's hard to make an argument against gay marriage beyond "it's against my religion". (As I've said before, it IS against my religion; but I'm not sure it should be illegal.)
.
That said, at least THIS action was filed in the CORRECT court -- Federal district court. You can't use the rights provisions of the Arkansas Constitution to overturn an amendment TO said Constitution (i.e., Amendment 83); only the Feds can do that. (I hope the ADG posts the complaint shortly.)

I think Grim is trying to justify disallowing same sex CIVIL marriage because of the slippery slope of then having to allow all he listed, but I'll bet he can't justify disallowing heterosexual marriage because then we get that same slippery slope: if you allow or homosexual (or heterosexual) marriage then you have to allow the marriage of humans and clams, or some such rot.
*
It is real simple. For Grim, heterosexual civil marriage gets to stand on its own merits, so we don't have to worry about all of his fantasy unions. For some unexplainable reason, homosexual civil marriage shouldn't get to stand on its own merits, but has to debate the merits of all of his fantasy unions.
*
What a silly crock of condensed heifer dust.

Hey Rbb - RBB, homosexuality has PROVEN social (and if heterosexual, biological) consequences that warrant its being outlawed. And "same sex marriage" in the manner you claim isn't real; it's indistinguishable from other non-traditional unions, which also has proven social consequences. (Anyone who thinks Ellen's wife is her equal IS crazy.) That parade of horribles only makes us heterosexuals look stupid; IMO it's hard to make an argument against traditional marriage beyond "it's against my religion of advanced liberalism".

Hey Grim - Notice how the GBLTQ's like to interchange terms like "same sex marriage", "marriage equality", "civil marriage", and others in an attempt to obfuscate their hypocrisy in condemning certain non-traditional state-sanctioned unions while supporting those of their selective choosing. The mockery the GBLTQ agenda is making of marriage will eventually lead to a systems failure, as your example shows. The good news is the GBLTQ's are apt to overplay their hand with an "in your face" attitude that many will find repulsive. Let them have their fun for now. Reality will bite sooner or later.

Grim? Your intent ALWAYS is to provoke and ridicule.

Honestly...your behavior here is so Christ-like, I'm just gonna call you Jesus from here on out.

Cool?
