U.S. aid $3.4 million for airport at Highfill

The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Highfill will get a $3.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for continued upgrades at the airport, including the widening of a taxi lane near the airport’s newest concourse and the purchase of a power sweeper to keep the airfield clear.

The grant was announced Tuesday by U.S.

Sens. John Boozman and Mark Pryor, along with U.S. Rep. Steve Womack.

The money will also be used to update the airport’s master plan and identify growth and development needs, as well as reimburse costs of a terminal building expansion.

Widening of the taxi lane will enable larger aircraft to access the back side of Concourse A, the most recent addition, a release from the state’s congressional delegation said.
