About 3:50 a.m. on June 30, Thomas flagged down an officer near West 12th and Woodrow streets and said he’d been shot about a mile away, according to a police report.

Thomas said he gave a man a ride near West 13th and Peyton streets when the passenger demanded money.

The man then pulled out a gun, and the two fought over the weapon before Thomas said he heard up to three gunshots ring out, police said. Thomas suffered three gunshot wounds near his right knee and was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, police said.

Thomas was treated and released, but readmitted July 15 for complications related to the wounds, Davis said. He died the next day.

Davis said investigators haven’t developed a suspect. The shooter is described only as a 5-foot-11 black man.
