Singing Convention

GREENBRIER — The 135th annual Faulkner County Singing Convention will be at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene on Friday and Saturday. Singing will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, break for lunch and begin again at 1 p.m. The church is at 193 Johnson Loop on Arkansas 225, 10 miles east of Greenbrier. Officers for the 2013 convention are Robert Clark, president; Jonathan Sawrie, vice president; H.R. Neal, chaplain; Raymond Bush, sergeant at arms; Margie Fulmer, secretary; and Martha Wilcox, treasurer. County participants are encouraged to report recent deaths in their communities so the memorial committee can remember those people. Music Downtown at Sundown

RUSSELLVILLE — Music Downtown at Sundown will present the second in a series of three concerts at 7 p.m. at Depot Park. Adam Faucett and The Tall Grass will headline the show. Also in the lineup is Brick Fields. Jamie Lou and the Whiskey Too will kick off the evening. Admission is free, but donations are accepted and appreciated. Food concessions will be provided, and water and soft drinks will be available for sale. All proceeds will help fund improvements to Depot Park.

Lactation Club

CONWAY — The Conway Regional Great Start Lactation Club will meet for the first time at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room of the medical center. The group is open to all expectant moms, new moms and experienced moms who want to breastfeed their babies. Light refreshments will be served. The club will meet the fourth Saturday of each month. 9 to 5: The Musical

LESLIE — The Conway Dinner Theater, in association with the Faulkner Academy of Arts and the Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce, will present 9 to 5: The Musical at 7 p.m. at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center in Leslie. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. All proceeds will go to nonprofit organizations. For more information, call (870) 448-2557.

Cardboard Boat Races

HEBER SPRINGS — The 27th annual World Championship Cardboard Boat Races will be held at Sandy Beach on Greers Ferry Lake. Awards will be given for the most elaborate and fastest boats and the best team spirit. There will be a Titanic Award for the most dramatic sinking. Parking will cost $5. QuickBooks Seminar

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present a hands-on QuickBooks Payroll seminar from 9 a.m. to noon at Arkansas Tech University. Participants will learn to set up the necessary information to use the payroll features in QuickBooks accounting software. Other topics include tracking employee time, issuing paychecks, paying liabilities and producing payroll reports. A computer will be provided for each participant to use during the interactive session. CONWAY — The Conway League of Artists is taking applications for membership. The league meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Faulkner County Library in Conway. Yearly dues are $20, and there is a good lineup of programs in the making for this coming year. Refreshments are served at meetings. Book Bag Sale

HEBER SPRINGS — Cleburne County Friends of the Library will host a Book Bag Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday in July at 2255 Arkansas 25B N. All proceeds will benefit the Cleburne County Library.

RUSSELLVILLE — The River Valley Beekeepers meet at 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month at Western Sizzlin’. Anyone interested in beekeeping is invited to attend.

Ancestor Fair

MORRILTON — The Conway County Genealogical Society will sponsor its 17th annual Ancestor Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 in the Multipurpose Building at the County Fairgrounds on U.S. 64 East in downtown Morrilton. People will share their family histories and photos, and county genealogical societies will offer publications for sale. For those researching a family tree, assistance will be available.
