Historical Society Meeting

ASH FLAT — The summer quarterly meeting of the Sharp County Historical Society will be at 2 p.m. in the Ash Flat Library Meeting Room behind First National Banking Co. Guest speaker Jimmie Edwards will portray a private in the Army of Tennessee who left north Arkansas for a 90-day adventure and spent four years fighting for the Confederacy.

Jungle Jaunt Vacation Bible School

NEWARK — Newark Southern Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 6-8:15 p.m. Monday through Friday for children in preschool through the 12th grade. The theme is Jungle Jaunt.

JACKSONVILLE — The Esther D. Nixon Library will show the movie Jack the Giant Slayer, rated PG-13, at 5:30 p.m.

Book Bag Sale

HEBER SPRINGS — The Cleburne County Library will have a Book Bag Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Cleburne County Library.

Mineral Club Meeting

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Walt Manger, retired geologist from the University of Arkansas, will present Cephalopods of Northern Arkansas at 10 a.m. at the Spring River Gem and Mineral Club at the Omaha Center, 20 Omaha Circle, in Cherokee Village. Old Soldiers Reunion

HEBER SPRINGS — The Old Soldiers Reunion, sponsored each year by American Legion Post 64, will be held Thursday through Saturday at Springs Park. There will be a carnival, and beauty pageants will be held at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater on Thursday and Friday. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. The parade will assemble on the west end of Main Street near Harps Food Store and end at Spring Park. All are welcome to participate in the parade. A Day of Caring

SEARCY — White County Medical Center will host A Day of Caring from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ganus Athletic Center at Burks Boulevard and East Park Avenue at Harding University. A Day of Caring is a communitywide outreach program to help uninsured and underinsured residents of White County. Free medical, dental and eye screenings will be provided. Information on local social services will be provided. School supplies, Bibles, children’s socks and underwear, diapers, bags of groceries and personal-care products will be distributed. Children must be present to receive items. The 20th annual Shots for Tots and Teens will be held with A Day of Caring. A parent or guardian is required to bring the child’s shot record. Donations needed include deodorant, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other personal-care products, diapers and boxed nonperishable food items. Artist of the Month

ASH FLAT — Works of artist Noel Matthews will be on display at the Ash Flat Library through Wednesday. Matthews’ paintings are oil and acrylic. He is president of the Strawberry River Art Association in Horseshoe Bend and gives art lessons.

Sanitation Pickup Schedule Change

SEARCY — The city of Searcy Sanitation Department has temporarily changed its hours for safety reasons because of high temperatures. Residential garbage and recycle pickup will begin at 6 a.m. All other areas of operation will remain the same. This scheduling change will remain in effect until further notice.

Relay for Life Fundraiser

SALEM — There will be a Fulton County Relay for Life fundraiser at 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Ozark Mountain Music Makers Barn, featuring music by Glory Road, Dead Wood Band, Vicky Lynn and Lawless, and more. Donations will be accepted for admission. Pulled-pork plates, complete with baked beans, coleslaw and a drink, will cost $5 each, and to-go orders will also be available.

God’s Backyard Bible Camp VBS
