Man charged after leaving child in car at Oaklawn

A Bismarck man was arrested after police determined he had left a child unattended in his car while at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.

Stephen Noel Hoffman, 36, was cited for second degree endangering the welfare of a minor after an individual noticed a 5-year-old boy wandering the Oaklawn Park parking lot alone around 1:40 a.m Sunday, according to the Hot Springs Police Department.

When asked, the child said he had come with his father and that he had been in the car by himself for some time. Hoffman later said he left the child unattended for three hours. Security footage showed Hoffman pulling into the parking lot at 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

Hoffman was taken into custody at held at the Garland County jail in lieu of $1,000 bond.
