Greenwood man killed after ATV overturns

A 66-year-old Greenwood man died Sunday after the all-terrain vehicle he was riding overturned in Yell County, authorities said.

James E. Wroten was riding a 1998 Yamaha ATV about 9:30 a.m. on Arkansas 309 four miles south of Waveland when the vehicle ran off the west side of the road and overturned, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Wroten died at the scene.

It wasn't clear what caused the ATV to leave the highway. Conditions were described as clear and dry.

The death marked the 274th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures. It was also the second fatal ATV accident in as many days after one Saturday in Poughskeepie that killed one rider and injured another.
