Paralyzed Trumann man injured when dog bites scrotum

A 39-year-old Trumann man who is paralyzed from the waist down awakened Monday to find his dog had bitten him in the scrotum and possibly eaten one of his testicles, according to a police report.

The man, whose name was not released, told authorities he woke up Monday morning to a burning feeling in his mid-section.

"He stated that he sleeps in the nude and he noticed that his dog was between his legs," Corporal Justin Hooton wrote in the report (PDF). "He also noticed that the dog had blood on its muzzle and front feet. He investigated further and noticed that the dog had eaten one of his testicles."

A separate narrative in the report from a different officer indicated only that the dog had bitten him in the scrotum and "possibly" bitten off and eaten one of his testicles.

The man told police he had taken in the stray dog — described in the report as a "small, white, fluffy" breed that had been docile previously — about three weeks earlier and didn't know if it was vaccinated.

Medics were called to the scene to treat the man and he was later transported to the hospital. His condition isn't known.

The dog was euthanized and its head was sent to the Department of Health for rabies testing.
