OKLAHOMA CITY — Runoff from torrential rains that pelted the Oklahoma City area after a number of tornadoes hit the area is threatening to undermine roadways.
Television images Saturday showed rainwater pouring into a hole near an intersection in northeastern Oklahoma City, and the Canadian County Sheriff's Office report similar erosion problems south of Interstate 40 between Mustang and Yukon.
Storms rolled in off the prairie Friday night and produced tornadoes, high winds, heavy hail and up to 7 inches of rain in some areas.
Nine people died and more than 100 were injured by the storms.
State emergency managers said there were numerous road washouts at Checotah and in Hughes County, and that cars had been inundated in Okmulgee County.
