Officials meet at War Memorial Stadium to discuss possible bowl game

A meeting was held Thursday afternoon with members of the War Memorial Stadium Commission, the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt Conference to further discuss the possibility of a bowl game in Little Rock.

Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson, who in the past has said that the conference supports the city getting a bowl game, was present Friday, along with MAC Commissioner Jon A. Steinbrecher, who toured the facilities and heard the group's business plan.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock Athletic Director Chris Peterson, who has been one of the leaders of the project, said the three sides are in talks for the bowl, and the biggest issue at the moment is finding a television network to air the game.

"At this point, what it would be is, led by Commissioner Benson with the consent of the Mid-American Conference, propose [the game] to the TV platforms in the United States, the national TV platforms and see who has an interest."

No official announcement has been made about the game, which would be called the "Rice Bowl," including a date and time.
