Harold Carlisle Memorial Tournament

JACKSONVILLE — The sixth annual Harold Carlisle Memorial Tournament will feature a four-person scramble, beginning with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at Southern Oaks Country Club. The cost is $100 per person, and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each flight, and for longest drive and closest to the hole. The entry fee includes the green fee, a cart, range balls, lunch, on-course refreshments, two mulligans per player and one skirt per player. Each player will receive a door prize, and one person will have a chance to putt for $10,000. There will also be a golf-ball drop with a top prize of $1,000. Lunch will be provided beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Town Hall Meeting

NAMI Meeting

SEARCY — The National Alliance on Mental Illness will meet at 6 p.m. in the Cypress Room at White County Medical Center South. The topic for the meeting will be medication. Those attending may bring a list of medicines and supplements they take. Representatives from Harding University’s College of Pharmacy will be on hand to discuss medicine possibilities and how to use various kinds. This will be the group’s brown-bag meeting. Inner Peace Yoga Lesson

JACKSONVILLE — Yoga instructor Sarah Sullivan will give an introductory yoga lesson for ages 10 and older at 4 p.m. at the Esther D. Nixon Library.

Audubon Society Meeting

CLINTON — The Little Red River Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Petit Jean Electric Building, 270 Quality Drive, for the program Creature Feature, suitable for all ages. Various animals from the Little Rock Zoo will be on hand. The society will have a Dutch-treat dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Western Sizzlin before the program. Door prizes will be given during the meeting. American Girl Book Club

Smoked Pork Butt Sale

HEBER SPRINGS — The Rotary Club of Heber Springs will hold a smoked pork butt sale. The group will smoke the meat Friday. To place an order, call (501) 362-6018 or contact any Rotarian. The price is $35 per unit, and the meat can be picked up between 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Eagle Bank parking lot on Main Street. Proceeds will go for scholarships and community projects.

Iris Sale

SEARCY — The White County Iris Society will hold its annual iris sale from 8 a.m. to noon at the farmers market on the court square in Searcy. In addition to flowers from the gardens of local members, plants will also be available from Nanna’s Garden.

Sanitation Pickup Schedule Change

SEARCY — The city of Searcy Sanitation Department is temporarily changing its hours, beginning Monday, for safety reasons because of high temperatures. Residential garbage and recycle pickup will begin at 6 a.m. All other areas of operation will remain the same. This scheduling change will remain in effect until further notice.

Artist of the Month

ASH FLAT — Cathy Demko is the June Artist of the Month at the Ash Flat Library. Demko’s art career spans 30 years. Some of her work is showcased in the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion and is featured in the Arkansas Artists Engagement Calendar. Her portrait of Gov. Mike Beebe is part of the Arkansas Governor’s permanent collection. Demko is an official U.S. Coast Guard artist and a U.S. Post Office Cancellation Stamp artist. Tyler Parten Memorial Scholarship Tournament

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Cherokee Village Men’s Golf Association will host its first Tyler Parten Memorial Scholarship Tournament at the Cherokee Village South Golf Course on July 13 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Scholarships, honoring 1st Lt. Parten, will be awarded from the proceeds to a student at Highlands High School and at Lee Academy. Parten, a 2003 graduate of Lee Academy in Marianna and class valedictorian, was killed in Afghanistan, Konar Province, in 2009. He was a scout platoon leader with the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, in Fort Carson, Colo. The tournament will have four-person teams for $180 (plus a cart, if needed), a scramble format and a $10,000 hole-in-one prize, as well as other prizes. Lunch will be served after play.

Mountains, Music and Motorcycles

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The second Mountains, Music and Motorcycles car show will be held Aug. 17 in the Centennial Bank parking lot. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon.
