Two men are dead and one in custody after a machete attack Wednesday night in Fort Smith, the Fort Smith Police Department said in a statement. Gregory Aaron Kinsey, 20, was arrested in connection with two counts of capital murder.

Police received a call at 9:48 p.m. about a stabbing in the 1600 block of North D Street. Responding officers found the body of Nathan Young, 32, and Brandon Prince, 39, both with extensive cuts on their upper bodies.

A witness said he was on the front porch of the duplex talking with the two men when they saw a man walking down the alley acting strangely, Fort Smith police said. Prince and Young confronted the man in the middle of the street, and then the man took a machete from behind his back and attacked both men, the witness told police.

The attacker fled after the witness threw a piece of wood at him, police said. Another witness knew the man's mother, police said, and Kinsey was arrested at his mother's residence at 524 1/2 S. 17th St.
