Winrock International’s board of directors announced Monday that Rodney Ferguson will become the nonprofit organization’s president and chief executive officer April 1.

Ferguson will succeed Frank Tugwell, who is retiring from the helm after more than 14 years, the Little Rock-based nonprofit group said in a statement.

Having worked the past 20 years as a consultant on communications and strategy for the nonprofit sector, Ferguson is a principal at Lipman Hearne Inc. in Washington, D.C., where he has worked closely with the MacArthur Foundation to increase awareness of the MacArthur Fellows, known as the “genius” awards. In his time there, he has worked with other major foundations, such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts and the National Children's Medical Center; philanthropic organizations; colleges and universities; and international aid and development projects.

"I am thrilled about the opportunity to lead Winrock International," Ferguson said. "Winrock has a well-deserved reputation for demonstrating integrity, successfully executing programs around the world and in the U.S., and building and supporting an extraordinary team of professionals. I look forward to working with the Winrock team to advance its mission in the years ahead."

Ferguson holds a bachelor’s degree from Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in Massachusetts.
