Police in Little Rock are to start periods of strict enforcement for drunken drivers, especially the younger ones.
The first stepped-up enforcement event runs Friday through March 17, and the second is April 12-21.
The Little Rock Police Department said those times coincide with proms and graduation ceremonies, when young revelers may be more likely to get behind the wheel while impaired.
The agency says TV and radio ads will reinforce a message of zero tolerance for drunken driving by people under 21.
The limit for drunken driving in Arkansas is a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent or higher, but for drivers under 21, the limit is .02 percent or above, a much stricter standard.
Police will also be enforcing the legal drinking age of 21.

No doubt it is important to get young peoples' attention where drinking and driving is concerned. But at this point in the Little Rock crime scene, you have much bigger problems than underage drinking. I am puzzled by the pride that the LRPD's public relations staff is taking such as bragging over License Plate Capture cameras and roadblocks when the city is becoming unsafe to eat out at restaurants or shop at malls without the fear of being gunned down.
