The University of Arkansas has announced it has entered a memorandum of understanding to start a partnership with a business school in Brazil.

In a Tuesday news release, the university said the Sam M. Walton College of Business, with the Fucape Business School in Brazil, will work toward the exchange of students and faculty and collaborative programs to benefit both schools. The memorandum was signed by Walton College Dean Eli Jones and Fucape School Dean Arilton Teixeira.

The agreement is meant to “establish a formal agreement of cooperation and friendship which is intended to further the academic objectives of each institution and to promote better understanding between the faculty and students of each institution,” UA said.

Jones said in the release the agreement establishes a framework that will strengthen both schools.

"Brazil is a growing, important part of the global economy, and the signing of this document further cements the Walton College’s commitment to being a leader in international business education and research," said.

Teixeira said the memorandum opens up a partnership in research and consulting.

“The potential for building a bigger research network is great and will benefit Walton and Fucape professors,” he said.

Teixeira also said there was potential for Walton College students to learn Portuguese and obtain internships in Brazil while studying.

The Fucape Business School began 12 years ago and now has 1,700 students and four business majors in law, accounting, management and economics.

Intersting. Hope they have one for China too, because they are new economic super-power. If students want to advance in the future, they will either have to learn Chinese and the Chinese systems or else go work for the government or work at Wal-Mart or MacDonalds.
