HOT SPRINGS — Officials with Hot Springs National Park say automatic budget cuts that took effect March 1 will reduce the park’s budget by about $228,000.
Park Superintendent Josie Fernandez says seasonal and temporary positions normally filled in the spring and summer months will be eliminated, saving the park about $77,000.
She told the Sentinel-Record that the most noticeable change will be the visitor center hours. Typically, the park extends the visitor center hours every summer, but Fernandez says they’ll remain 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this summer.
Fernandez says the budget cuts will also affect the number of guided tours available, as well as maintenance on the park’s 26 miles of trails.
The cuts are part of $85 billion in budget reductions nationwide.

Too bad Bill Clinton does not try to help out his former boyhood home. But I guess the lure of NYC and the $$$$$$$$ he is always chasing are his goals now.

Why don't they just reduce salaries instead of cutting positions?

The sequester is only a decrease in the amount that the budgets were going to be increased in the coming year. It supposedly takes them back to the level of spending for 2008. So if the parks were open longer in 2008, they can be open longer now. It's all an Obamascam. We don't believe him.

Obamascare was a scam. Across America federal agencies are learning to manage with less, just as you or I have to do when times are lean. Obama's "the sky will fall" rhetoric about the sequester is proving to be a lie. BH Obama is a shameful individual. Are you demorats embarrassed yet?

The only thing that embarrasses me is having to share a species with you, Packman. You bring down the curve for the rest of us.

Federal institution are doing what they have to now to cut the required money from their budgets as responsible managers. There are no games being played, just the reality of reduced funding. More to come as these cuts cause lose of government services and loss of jobs.

Hey djigoo - Why am I not surprised you offer only personal attack. It is, of course, the last refuge of a loser in a debate. And yes, djigoo, you are such a loser. Speaking of species, what is the Order for GBLT's?

popsmith if you had read thomas sowelle's great article yesterday, you would know exactly why government does it this way. this is the most ridiculous crap i have heard in some time. this sequester is a 2% reduction to their new budget. they have an increased budget coming this year and this is only a 2% reduction to the increase. they made it just fine last year, why is there any problems for the coming year in hot springs, with any government agency???? if you believe the crap being shoveled out of the white house about this, i have a bridge over buffalo river i would like to sell you at a cut rate. and ronalfos, what services and loss of jobs are you thinking of. there is no reduction in funding, only a reduction in future funding, which is an increase over current funding. sure they may not be able to hire more employees, but they met payroll this year and they will have more in their budget for next year, just not as much more. maybe the ones at the top of the ladder won't get a big raise this year....feel free to look for a job elsewhere providing the same cushy atmosphere you work in now........

So the FY'13 budget that takes the Park through 9/30/13 was cut by $228,000. Question for Demo-zette: Is the Park's total FY'13 budget however still higher than the Park's FY'12 budget even after this "cut"?

Packman,
I happen to know djigoo, and he is very good looking and highly intelligent. His only flaw is that he wastes his time bickering with you. Oh, I guess that I do that too.
